HEAD START
The
Bossier Office of Community Services’ Head Start Program provides a
well-rounded educational program for pre-school aged children in Bossier
Parish. It is the aim of each staff member of Head Start to instill within
each child a greater sense of dignity, self-esteem, and better mental
processes and skills, particularly conceptual communicative skills. The
program is designed to meet the social, emotional, health, nutritional and
psychological needs of the families.
CONTENT AREAS:
EDUCATION—The
educational program is designed for each child’s needs. It also aims to
meet the needs of the community served and its ethnic and cultural
characteristics. Children receive learning experiences to foster
intellectual , social and emotional growth
HEALTH—
Early identification of health problems are achieved through services
including medical, dental, mental health, and nutritional programs.
FAMILY AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP—
Parents
are involved through parent education, program planning and operation
activities. Our social service specialists assist families in obtaining
services to meet their goals.
ELIGIBILITY
Children
between 3 and 5 years with preference given to low income and children with
disabilities.
EARLY HEAD START
Early Head
Start provides child and family development services for low-income families
with children between the ages of birth to 3 years and pregnant women.
Goals:
*To
operate a comprehensive development program, preventative care, family
centered, and family driven, integrated developmental and sensitive to race,
culture, gender and individuals with disabilities
*To create
a pro-family and community partnership program.
*Provide a
crisis intervention and treatment service, child welfare, mental health
services, drug and domestic abuse treatment either directly or through
referral.
